He was suspended for 25 games without pay on July 23 after the positive test for the banned substance. "We talked quite a bit before the suspension and he went through a lot of pain," Padres manager Bud Black said. "He had some feelings on this, as far as how it relates to him coming back on the team." At the time of his suspension, Maybin was hitting .247, with one home run and nine RBIs in 62 games. "When Cams right and hes playing his game, hes a good player. That means hes getting base hits, driving the ball, stealing bases and playing defence," Black said. "Weve got to get Cam back to where hes a big contributor for us. He wants to help our team win, and he does that by being on the field and playing well."
